A TERRIBLE TRAGEDY - THE BOXING DAY TSUNAMIJosef Stalin is supposed to have said that a million deaths is a statistic while a single death is a tragedy. This week there have been several personal tragedies perhaps reaching Ten Thousand for the whole of this peninsula alone. To the loss of lives is added the inescapable loss of livelihood for many at the more disadvantaged levels of our society. Such events come under the umbrella grouping of “Acts of God” but I doubt whether any Benevolent God can bring down such devastation on his creatures. Most of us seem to have the attitude of not being too concerned unless one of our own family or friends is involved in the catastrophe, but we really cannot be unmindful of the Tragedy that’s so evident around us, though the media and to our own eyes if we care to look. We as Freemasons must contribute our mite to the restitution of some semblance of normalcy to our ravaged neighbourhood, and for this purpose I am putting out an appeal to our Brethren. As an immediate and interim response we shall make a donation from available Charity Funds through an appropriate channel. Brethren, please rise to the occasion! R.W.BRO. K.R.N. MENON
