RW DGM' s MESSAGE FOR MARCH 2010
THE PROMISE OF
YOUTH
As
the discerning attendee at our recently concluded District Investiture Meeting
last month, hosted by Lodge Faith, Hope and Charity would have noticed – I
closed my address at Ooty with a reference to our younger brethren – which I
shall continue in this message.
It is a truism that the youth of
any organisation or country for that matter will represent and deliver the
future. As Masons the older Brethren have an obligation to provide space and
guidance for our younger colleagues to be brought to the full bloom of our
Brotherhood.
At Ooty I did notice a more
enthusiastic participation of the young Brigade, in the after-meeting
jollifications and have begun to talk of a Masonic Rock Band and such. If this
could be extended as an idea to include proper Masonic music it could be an
useful adjunct to our more serious ceremonials. The important thing is for the
young Mason to participate and to feel he is in the thick of things, even if the
ladder positions may still be some years away.
To achieve this goal I, for one
would be happy to encourage such activities as may harmoniously blend with
District and Lodge gatherings, after the traditional business has been dealt
with – to encourage fraternal bonhomie.
In the meanwhile we hope Cochin,
where we next meet in August, will provide some further examples of youthful
participation and that more importantly the Senior Brethren will make space for
our younger confreres to participate in greater number in Lodge workings.
